All 20 rows come from one source for one year on one perimeter: ISTAT, annual report for 2024, collective accommodation with private non-commercial lettings excluded. Their sum is exactly the published national total, which is what rules out a series stitched from different sources. ISTAT publishes no regional breakdown for the following year, and figures from regional observatories count on a wider perimeter — those are kept separately as indicators and stay out of the headline figures.
What this page does not carry, and why
Source markets are a dash, not an absence. ISTAT does publish overnight stays and arrivals by the guests’ country of residence, but in the annual report Il turismo in Italia and on the same esercizi ricettivi perimeter; the latest issue covers 2024. The series is not here yet: not collected, rather than non-existent. That issue is what closes it. This slot previously carried a 2025 regional rank (“seventh in 1962, second in 2025”); it has been removed, because no 2025 regional series on the ISTAT perimeter exists — as this page itself states — and no reachable publication carries the 1962 rank order.
